BB King's Family Amid Legal Dispute

According to The Sun: The family of legendary blues singer BB King finds itself at the center of a fierce court battle over the artist's estate, said to be worth millions.

The conflict arose from a prolonged struggle over the use of the name, likeness, and legacy of the famed musician. It specifically concerns the right of his family to open a restaurant named in his honor.

Accusations of Greed

Entertainment attorney Vokin McCoy, who is not involved in the case, accused the company of "greed," stating that King’s relatives should not have the right to open a restaurant in the star's name.

McCoy emphasized that the actions of Tennco Holdings from Tennessee "may have cost the King family millions of dollars due to lost revenues, royalties, and brand exploitation."

Throughout his illustrious career, the singer earned over 100 million dollars, and his estate at the time of death in Vegas in 2015 was estimated at more than 10 million dollars.

The Clark County Court in Nevada is hearing this case following allegations of financial "abuses" and exploitation related to the name of the blues icon.

Attorney McCoy, who handles this issue, expressed his "deep concern" regarding the impact on the artist's legacy.

"This kind of greed and exploitation has no place in the modern industry."

Conflicts and Accusations

Legal documents indicate a struggle between the plaintiff Tennco Holdings and several defendants, including Kingsid Ventures, which is jointly owned by King and his deceased manager. The latter was created to manage the licensing agreement with Tennco for operating the BB King clubs.

Among the accusations is that Tennco is withholding earnings and not providing financial reports related to the use of King’s brand, resulting in significant financial losses for his family.

The Necessity of a Trial

The attorneys are asking the court to determine whether Tennco indeed has rights to use King’s reminiscences, as his family is incurring significant financial losses.

The case will go to arbitration in April 2026.

This legal conflict underscores the importance of protecting the legacies of iconic figures. The remnants of BB King's creativity continue to impact the music industry, and his family strives to preserve his legacy. Considering the financial losses and emotional aspect, this case has the potential to influence the future use of creative legacies in the entertainment market.
