Forecasts regarding power supply in Ukraine in winter

The Center for Countering Disinformation presented several scenarios for the development of the power supply situation in Ukraine during the autumn-winter period. The most optimistic forecast predicts that Ukrainians will have electricity for up to 12 hours a day. The CCD reports this.

Yuriy Korolchuk, an expert from the Institute of Energy Strategies, noted that under favorable conditions - stable operation of 8-9 nuclear power plant units and a relatively warm winter - it is possible to restore about 3 GW out of the damaged 6 GW capacity. In this case, power outages will last up to 12 hours a day.

According to the pessimistic scenario, if only 2000 MW are restored, and 6-7 nuclear power plant units operate during a severe winter, Ukrainians may be left without electricity for up to 20 hours a day.

In the worst-case scenario, if Russia continues to attack Ukraine's energy infrastructure, Ukrainians may spend up to 20 hours a day without electricity and heating this winter.

According to the forecast of Serhiy Nagorniak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada's energy committee, if the temperature in winter drops to -10°C, Ukrainians are highly likely to have electricity for only 12-14 hours a day, with the remaining 10 hours or so spent without power.
