Weight loss and concerns
After gaining weight for the role in the film 'Josephine', Channing needed to lose 70 pounds for 'Roofman'.
This drastic change in weight became a serious physical burden, raising concerns among those close to him.
“I just played a role this year, and my weight went up to 240 [pounds],” Channing told Variety in an interview.
“I planned to lose down to 185. But during filming, the weight just kept dropping, and I got down to 172.”
'Roofman' director Derek Cianfrance noted that assistant director Mariela Comiti was particularly worried about Channing's rapid weight loss.
“She said: ‘This is too much. Go, buy him a steak right now,’” Channing recalls.
“I looked at myself and felt empty. This film for me was about loneliness. A true meditation on the desire to be full. … That empty feeling gets uncomfortable after a while.”
Plans for the future
After experiencing the drastic weight fluctuations, Channing decided to no longer take on roles that would require him to gain a significant amount of weight.
He announced this on his Instagram, showing progress photos of his weight loss with several shirtless selfies, and reached out to his fans, noting that he would no longer put his body through such changes.
“We’re back on the scale! The first photo - today 205, the second - 235 for the movie 'Josephine', and then the third - 172 for 'Roofman'.
“I’m thankful for my genetics. Thankful to my chef/nutritionist/witch. Thankful to my trainer. I couldn’t make these huge weight fluctuations without you. But I’m not taking any 'fat' roles anymore, haha.”
Channing has been acting for about twenty years, starting with his debut in 2004 on the show 'CSI: Miami'.
He got his first role in a feature film 'Coach Carter' the following year.
'Roofman' is set to be released on October 3 of this year.
