Career and Famous Roles
In her brilliant career spanning over seven decades, Cardinale appeared in more than 100 films and television shows.
At 17, she won a beauty contest in Tunisia, where she grew up in a Sicilian family. As a prize for this contest in 1957, she received a trip to the Venice Film Festival, marking the start of her acting career.
Initially, Claudia planned to become a teacher, but the competition changed her life. Her early career was affected by a secret pregnancy associated with violence in her relationship. In 1958, she gave birth to her son Patrick in London, whom she passed off as her younger brother for several years while he grew up with her parents.
Claudia gained international fame in 1963 when she appeared in Federico Fellini's films '8½' and 'The Leopard'. This brought certain difficulties as she had to change her hair color for each role.
Her most notable roles came in 1968 in the comedy 'The Pink Panther' and in 'It Happened One Night' by Sergio Leone. The actress herself considered her best work in Hollywood to be 'The Professionals' from 1966.

“I have lived more than 150 lives: prostitute, saint, romantic, a woman of diverse characters, and it is great to have the opportunity to change.”
Throughout her career, while working with famous directors, she said: “They have given me everything.”
In 2000, Cardinale was appointed by UNESCO as a goodwill ambassador to protect women's rights.
