The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed laws extending the term of martial law and mobilization until May 9, 2025. This has led to a large number of queues at the territorial centers for recruitment and social support.

For example, queues of men formed near the Khmelnytsky territorial recruitment center. The mobilization law stipulates that some categories of conscripts may receive a deferment from conscription. However, this deferment will not be permanent, even if the grounds remain.

The deferment lasts during the mobilization, which is set for 90 days (three months) and is extended by the president's decree. The deferment is valid until the mobilization ends, after which the grounds are re-verified.

To check for availability of a deferment, one can use the mobile app 'Reserve+'. This app is available to all categories of conscripts.

The Verkhovna Rada supported the extension of martial law and general mobilization for another 90 days. This decision will take effect from February 8, 2025, to May 9, 2025.

Martial law was introduced in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, due to Russian aggression. General mobilization of citizens aged 18 to 60 is also being carried out without grounds for deferment or exclusion.

In 2024, defense spending amounted to 2.1 trillion UAH, and in 2025, it is planned to spend 2.2 trillion UAH.

Russia plans to recruit at least 126,000 people from the 'special contingent' and mobilize 280,000 people to replace losses in the army during the war against Ukraine.
