Winter Planting of Blooming Cherries: The Secret to a Lush Garden in Spring.
Winter Work in the Garden
According to ТСН: The winter is not a reason to halt gardening. On the contrary, experts recommend planting blooming cherries if you want to enjoy their beauty in spring.
Professionals explain that the cold season is the best time for planting trees with an open root system. In the dormant phase, the root system anchors better in the soil, giving the plant a strong start and reducing stress after planting.
Blooming cherries, similar to magnolias, beautify gardens with delicate pink and cream-white flowers from late March to early May. They are planted from November to March in sunny, wind-protected places with fertile and well-drained soil. Experts recommend paying attention to the varieties 'Kanzan' and 'Oosamunalis', which consistently delight for many years.
For planting, it is recommended to dig a hole about 60 centimeters wide and deep, add compost, and if necessary, choose not only open ground but also large containers. Before planting, the root system should be soaked, the tree well anchored, the surface mulched, and watered once a week in the first year. Winter pruning should be avoided to reduce the risk of diseases.
Planting trees with open roots has another advantage: The root system is not restricted by the pot and grows faster, making adaptation to the soil easier. Additionally, the moist winter soil helps the plants find their place without frequent watering.
Besides cherries, apples, roses, plums, birches, and peonies are also planted at this time. Such plants usually cost less and are a more environmentally friendly option as they do not require plastic containers.
We remind you that we previously reported that potatoes can be stored all winter without rotting if some basic rules are followed.
Therefore, winter can be utilized for active gardening. Planting trees in the cold season not only allows you to enjoy their blooms in spring but also provides the best conditions for the development of the root systems of the plants. So don't hesitate - it's time to take care of greening your own garden!
