Research: Appearance in Online Dating is 10 Times More Important than Intelligence

According to The Sun: According to the research, appearance matters much more than intelligence in the field of online dating. Scientists found that attractiveness is the most significant factor in profile selection.

'In online dating, appearance is ten times more important than intelligence,' confirms the research.

Researcher Hannes Rosenbush pointed out that if one is to create a self-description, the main focus should still be on improving the profile picture.

'Physical attractiveness in the profile picture was of enormous significance - and other factors mattered only slightly,' he added.

5340 decisions made by 445 users aged 18 to 35 years on dating apps like Tinder were analyzed.

Attractiveness was rated on a seven-point scale - each improvement by 1.5 points led to a 20% increase in matches and almost doubled the likelihood of selection.

However, the same improvement in the biography only increased the chances by two percent. Dr. Rosenbush from the University of Amsterdam explained: 'For both men and women, physical attractiveness predominates in the selection of partners for short-term relationships.

'The strong impact of attractiveness in profile pictures outweighs the weak effects of intelligence, height, and biography,' noted the researcher.

According to surveys, nearly one in ten Britons found their current partner online.

The indicated study found that appearance plays a huge role in the world of online dating, surpassing the importance of intelligence, job, and other factors. This highlights the significance of first impressions and visual appeal in the process of finding a partner.
