Local Self-Government Day: Greetings in Prose, Verses, and Postcards.

Today, December 7, we celebrate Local Self-Government Day in Ukraine. This holiday was established in 2000 by President Leonid Kuchma to recognize the importance of local self-government in the development of democracy and Ukrainian statehood.

On December 7, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the law that laid the foundations of local self-government in the country. Seven years later, this law was repealed and replaced by a new law on local self-government.
