Prices for potatoes and onions in Ukraine: where is it more profitable to buy?
In the comparison of supermarkets and markets in Ukraine, the prices for potatoes and onions differ. According to the Minfin portal, these fluctuations can affect family budgets. Therefore, we analyzed the prices of these vegetables to help buyers make an informed choice.
Supermarkets
As of September 18, the average price for potatoes in supermarkets was 21.53 UAH/kg. However, the cost varies in different stores. For example, in Metro the price is 20.70 UAH/kg, while in MegaMarket it reaches 22.90 UAH/kg. The price of new potatoes is significantly higher - 31.90 UAH/kg, which is more than last year (22.76 UAH/kg).
Currently, prices for white onions have decreased from 47.45 UAH/kg to 24.40 UAH/kg. The lowest price is recorded in Auchan - 18.80 UAH/kg, while in Novus it costs 29.99 UAH/kg. The average price for onions is 14.89 UAH/kg. Young onions can be bought for 14.90 UAH/kg, and blue onions for 28.40 UAH/kg.
Capital Market
At the capital market, potatoes can be bought for 16-18 UAH/kg, which is cheaper than in supermarkets.
The price of onions at the capital market ranges from 11 to 13 UAH/kg.
Market "Pochatok" in Odesa
At the "Pochatok" market, prices are only available for old potatoes. The wholesale price ranges from 18 to 20 UAH/kg, while the maximum is 30 UAH/kg.
Onions at this market cost from 8 to 15 UAH/kg, with the maximum price being 30 UAH/kg. Salad onions can be purchased from 17 to 80 UAH/kg, and Crimean onions wholesale for 65 UAH/kg, but consumers have to pay 120 UAH/kg.
