“Did I ever think that a record label would survive for 35 years and we would make a documentary about many of my colleagues? No,” he admits. “When we started Perfecto, it became a home for dance music.”

From the very beginning, Oakenfold surrounded himself with talented people. “I was lucky to work with amazing, talented people. Steve Osborne, Rob Davis, I learned from them.”

“There’s nothing better than being in a room with people who are better than you and watching their every move,” he says.

With Brian Rizer helping to manage the label, Perfecto quickly became a platform for DJs, producers, and solo singers.

Importantly, the label never had genre limitations. “We signed David Guetta in America for one album. We signed Mark Ronson, Carl Cox, Tiësto, Paul van Dyk, BT, Sasha, and John Digweed. We even released an album by Fabio and Grooverider.”

“We have covered virtually every aspect of dance music,” Oakenfold boasts.

This diverse approach is reflected in sub-labels such as Perfecto Breaks, Perfecto Black, and Perfecto Fluoro. “Perfecto is the only label that has ever won a psy-trance album in the top 40 pop charts,” he emphasizes.

Nostalgia and New Horizons

Anniversaries bring both nostalgia and new horizons. “I can exclusively reveal that we are making a new version of my track with Grace - Not Over Yet, together with London Grammar, which I am really excited about,” he shares.

Along with this, he supports new talents, including singer Jessica Suydam on her new single Bang, Bang and Velvet Cash from Phoenix.

“Now we have the experience and knowledge to support, develop, and encourage new artists as we move into the future.”

Statistics speak for themselves: over 10 million records sold, a new documentary 'How Dance Music Changed the World', and Perfecto Radio, which reaches 16 million listeners weekly.

“At the end of the day, we are just a label from South London that releases dance records for the world. Nothing has changed.”

A Look Into the Future

And Oakenfold continues to expand horizons far beyond the club scene - from Stonehenge to base camp on Everest. “Why should the next event take place in a club? Why can't we, as a community, make a statement?” he asks.

“I want to raise funds locally; I want to draw attention to these fantastic locations and important issues like climate change. I have a unique position to do this, and continue spreading dance music all over the world.”

Looking into the future, he remains optimistic. “Dance music is one of the most popular new genres of music. It is growing faster than blues, faster than jazz, faster than hip-hop in America.”

“We are only 35 years old. We are young compared to reggae and rock-n-roll.”

For Oakenfold, the mission is clear: “Perfecto was created as a label for people who create dance music to support and release their products. That's why we started this label. That has never changed. We have become wiser, better, and I would like to hope that we are becoming stronger.”

Thus, Oakenfold continues to work on developing his label and supporting new artists, aiming for new formats and ideas in daily practice. This showcases that even after 35 years, Perfecto remains actively influential in the world of dance music, providing a platform for innovation and creativity. Oakenfold, without hesitation, is ready for new experiments and projects that will undoubtedly open up even more possibilities for artists and music fans worldwide.
