The EU may lose US support due to America's reorientation towards Asia — Media.
Europeans need to consider that Washington may be looking at scenarios of reducing military support to Europe. Several European NATO countries have economized on defense spending and relied on US military power. During his first term, Trump threatened to withdraw American troops from Germany and even leave NATO. During his second term, he could do this or declare the Alliance 'inactive.' Harris, on the contrary, reaffirms America’s traditional commitments but may approach transatlantic ties more rationally. Trump's retreat from Europe could be swift or gradual. Another scenario is that the US will leave Europe without assistance if a war breaks out in Asia or if a financial crisis emerges in the US.
If Trump quickly abandons Europe, it will be frightening for it. In Europe, there is talk of increasing defense spending, but the crisis is too slow, and threats are perceived differently. If the US focuses on Asia, Europeans will have to take on more responsibility. Why not have Europeans unite their efforts earlier?
