Bulgaria will approach the EU Council to request halting the import of eggs from Ukraine

The Minister of Agriculture and Food of Bulgaria, Georgi Tahov, reported that on September 23, the country will approach the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries to request stopping the import of eggs from Ukraine.

He stated this at a meeting with farmers, reports the publication "24 Chasa".

Tahov noted that Bulgarian producers are facing market issues due to increased imports. He explained the possibility of applying protective measures under the safeguard mechanism to limit free trade with Ukraine.

Eggs

"When the import of a certain type of product or good – vegetables, meat, eggs – reaches certain limits that the EC has predetermined, then we can activate the mechanism to ban their import. Currently, we are doing this regarding eggs," said the minister.

According to Tahov, eggs are already included in the list of goods with increased tariffs, and now Bulgaria is taking the next step by demanding their complete ban at the EU Council meeting.

It is worth noting that from August 21, the EU launched a protective tariff mechanism for Ukrainian honey, which will be in effect until the beginning of June 2025. Earlier, this mechanism was applied to Ukrainian oats, eggs, and sugar.

We remind you, cereals began to rise in price: fresh prices for buckwheat, rice, and pasta were shown to Ukrainians.
