David Marrero has been punished for corruption violations
Former world number five in doubles, David Marrero, is one of two tennis players who have been disqualified for breaching anti-corruption rules. Marrero, who is 45 years old, admitted to paying for, as well as offering payment for 'wild cards' at tournaments.The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) clearly states the anti-corruption rules:'No Covered Person shall, directly or indirectly, offer,...'The consequences of this situation underline the importance of adhering to ethics in sports. Marrero's disqualification will not only remind other athletes of the need to follow the rules but also serve as a signal against corrupt practices in tennis.
