Freddie Mercury's unknown daughter criticized Bohemian Rhapsody: what's wrong with the film.
According to The Sun: Freddie Mercury's daughter stated that he would be outraged by the biographical film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” as she believes it is “full of fiction.”
She noted that, unlike her father, Rami Malek, who played the frontman of Queen, “never smiled and did not look happy in the film.”
AlamyMoreover, she expressed her outrage regarding how Freddie's AIDS diagnosis was portrayed in the film and accused the producers of inaccuracies with the dates.
According to her, the vibrant Freddie would have blocked the release of the 2018 film if he had the opportunity to influence it.
The woman became known only after speaking with rock biographer Lesley-Ann Jones for her new book “Love, Freddie.”
She claims to be the result of a connection between the star and the partner of his close friend in 1976 and decided to speak out to correct 'the film full of fiction.'
“Freddie would have been shocked by this film. It represents a version of him that is very far from the truth,” she added.
The woman, a medical professional, told Jones that she had a close relationship with the superstar.
She recalled that Freddie gifted her 17 diaries starting from 1976, and she promised to keep them a secret.
Furthermore, she criticized the “Queen machine” for exploiting Freddie after his death in 1991 due to complications from AIDS.
Freddie's close friend, Mary Austin, stated that she did not know about his “child” and added that she had never seen him writing a diary while living with him.
Who is Freddie Mercury?
We look at important moments from Freddie's life.
Freddie Mercury was the lead singer of the rock band Queen.
Born in Stone Town, Zanzibar, in September 1946, under the name Farrokh Bulsara.
Freddie's family left Zanzibar in 1964 due to civil unrest and settled in London. He studied graphic design at West London University.
At university, he met Roger Taylor and Brian May, who were part of the band Smile.
When the lead singer of Smile left the band, Freddie joined Taylor and May, and Queen was formed in 1970.
Freddie, who changed his name to Mercury in the 70s, was known for his incredible vocal abilities and flamboyant persona.
Queen's hits written by Freddie include “Killer Queen,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody to Love,” “We Are the Champions,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.”
Freddie also had a successful solo career and collaborated with other artists.
One of his most famous performances was Queen's concert at Live Aid in 1985.
Freddie's life tragically ended in 1991 at the age of 45. After years of touring the world and creating hits, he was diagnosed with AIDS.
According to his partner Jim Hutton, Freddie learned about his diagnosis shortly after Easter in 1987.
However, he chose to keep it a secret and denied his diagnosis amid rumors.
Freddie died the day after releasing a statement confirming that he had AIDS.
After his death, the rock star achieved even greater success. As a member of Queen, he was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
The situation regarding Freddie Mercury's daughter's statements draws attention to the story of the filming of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and allows a re-examination of it through the lens of the family's personal view of the legendary musician. In her words, the film does not reflect the true life and spirit of Freddie, which undoubtedly creates additional controversies around the artist's talent and his legacy.
This outrage also underscores the importance of truthfulness in biographical filmmaking, especially when it comes to prominent figures whose work has left a significant mark in music history.
