According to The Sun: Harry Potter films star Miriam Margolyes spoke about her plans to assist in dying.

"Harry Potter star spoke about her plans to assist in dying, admitting: 'I have let my body down'."

In a recent interview, Miriam expressed regret for not taking better care of her body and facing the consequences of aging, such as needing to use a walker to get around.

"Now I have to walk with a walker. I wish I could do sports. It's the most terrible waste of time, besides it keeps you fit. So I feel silly."

Despite her physical difficulties, Miriam has refused to take weight loss medications and speaks against the idea of taking medications prescribed for more serious illnesses. Instead, she believes there should be no food advertising on television.

"Absolutely not. This is for diabetics. You should not take medicine prescribed for people who are really ill. What I think is that we should not have food advertising on television."

She also spoke about her intentions to seek assistance in dying if her quality of life significantly deteriorates, stating that she wishes to preserve her identity and avoid unnecessary pain or loss of dignity.

"If a stroke meant that I couldn't speak, or I became frail, or I completely lost my mind, I would ask to be switched off. That's because I want to be who I am. I don't want to be less than I can be."

Moving to Italy

Specifically, during her vacation, Miriam expressed a desire to leave England and settle in Italy with her partner Heather Sutherland. She criticized the changes in her neighborhood and the behavior of wealthy residents, which led to her decision to move.

"I'm kind of fed up with England. I live on a street in Clapham, where everyone is rich, and the richer they are, the worse they behave."

She plans to sell her properties in London and Amsterdam to live with Heather in Italy for the rest of her days, emphasizing the importance of being together and valuing their relationship.

"She is an extraordinary, resourceful woman, and every time with her is uplifting, amazing, and fun, and sometimes full of anger, but she is my person, and I am her person, so we have to live together when we are old."

In preparation for the move, Miriam is considering obtaining Dutch residency in order to stay in Europe and be with Heather again. Their story will be explored further in her upcoming book 'Miriam's Little Book', set to be released in September.
