Ukrainian Hockey Players Drafted Mid-Practice at Ice Arena: Inside the Story.
Drafting of 'Kremenchuk' Hockey Players
According to Novyny.live: Two players from the 'Kremenchuk' club—goaltender Eduard Zakharchenko and forward Yehor Bezuhlyi—were conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a routine check at the 'Aysberh' ice arena. The mobilization took place while the team was in the middle of a training session, drawing significant public attention.
Zakharchenko, who joined 'Kremenchuk' in the spring of 2025, currently serves as the starting goalie for Ukraine's national hockey team. Bezuhlyi, a forward, has previous experience competing in the Ukrainian championship. Both athletes were swept up in the mobilization process that unfolded right on the rink.
Former Ukrainian national team goaltender Artur Ohandzhanyan confirmed the incident, stating:
“Officials from the Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center arrived for an inspection directly at the arena while the club was training.” — Artur Ohandzhanyan
This event highlights how the ongoing war continues to disrupt sports in Ukraine, even at the professional level. The conscription of athletes, especially from top-tier clubs, underscores the harsh realities faced by the country, where military operations affect all aspects of daily life, including athletics.
Such losses could impact team performance in national championships and hinder the overall development of hockey in Ukraine. At the same time, these incidents reflect the patriotic commitment of players who are willing to defend their nation during a time of crisis.
