I lifted lid on horrors of life as a hospital doctor in 1st book – now I’ve got tales of orgies, murder & cocaine in NHS.
Adam Kay's New Novel
According to The Sun: In his new detective novel 'A Particularly Nasty Case', Adam Kay, the author of the bestseller 'This Is Going to Hurt', offers readers an unusual story. From the very first pages, you'll encounter not only death at an orgy but also a doctor using cocaine through an inhaler. This work can definitely not be called a classic example of the 'cozy crime' genre.
PAThe Unruly Protagonist
The protagonist, Eitan Rose, has a chaotic personality, and his life is radically different from traditional detectives. The book is filled with scenes of sex, thefts from the morgue, and the discovery of ever new victims. Although the themes of the work resonate with Kay's previous books, the main setting remains the hospital — not coincidentally, as Adam worked as a doctor for six years before leaving the profession.
The author decided to leave medicine after encountering a challenging case that led to undiagnosed post-traumatic stress disorder. He is now a successful comedian and writer whose autobiography 'This Is Going to Hurt' has sold three million copies.
“I want to write about how mental health is treated in the medical field.”

A Dark Comedy About Mental Health
In the novel, Eitan encounters a series of deaths in the hospital and begins his own investigation, believing there is room for a crime. Adam seeks to draw attention to important issues regarding the treatment of mental illnesses within the medical community: “There is classism and snobbery in the medical profession, and I would like to play with that.”
Despite the dark storyline, the novel is filled with humor. Adam notes that Eitan contains parts of his own experiences, although he does not endorse his character's lifestyle, including drug use.
“Medicine is a job where you need to have an outlet.”
