During the emotional service, Matt embraced James's wife, Nadine, performing songs accompanied by guitar.

In an interview with The Sun, 56-year-old Matt expressed the belief that James was present at the farewell in a spiritual sense. Among those present were well-known friends like Nigel Farage, Christopher Biggins, Bobby Davro, Tom Tugendhat, Jeremy Kyle, Mike Graham, and Lizzy Cundy.

“I believe he is here, and I think he would be very disappointed that there is something after this,” said Matt.
“He will be looking at us, smiling. That's why I sang for him with his wife by my side.”

Matt met James when he was starting his career in the industry as the host of the pop group Bros along with his twin brother Luke. They remained close friends and spent time together in the days leading up to James's death, who passed away at the age of 74 from cancer.

“He asked me to sing at his funeral and insisted that 'When Will I Be Famous?' played when his coffin was carried into the church. No one can convince someone not to do this if it is his wish,” noted Matt.
“It was a great honor as he had been my friend for 30 years.”

While performing the songs, Matt admitted it was difficult to hold back tears.

“I just had to focus, it was very emotional.”

Despite their long friendship, Matt noted that his best memory of James was in those last weeks before his death.

“Many moments with him will remain in my memory.”
