Iceland boycotts Eurovision 2025: the fifth country protests against Israel.
Iceland's refusal to participate in Eurovision
According to The Sun: Iceland has become the fifth country to decide to boycott the upcoming Eurovision contest in protest against Israel, announced the national broadcaster of the country. The Nordic state joins Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, which will also not participate in the contest scheduled to take place in May next year in Vienna.
“Israel, unfortunately, always becomes a target of criticism for its policies,” noted a representative of the Icelandic broadcaster.
Other countries made this decision last week after members of the European Broadcasting Union agreed not to hold the contest in light of current events.
Thus, the boycott of Eurovision is gaining increasing support among countries expressing their stance on current international issues. This may affect the further development of the contest and its image on the world stage, as Eurovision has traditionally been a platform for cultural unification rather than division.
