Polish F-16 Pilot Dies During Airshow Training: What Happened.
Tragic Death of the Fighter Pilot
According to The Sun: The fighter pilot who died in a horrific crash while performing a stunt in an F-16 has been awarded the title of 'legend'.
Major Maksym Krakowian, an experienced army veteran, was piloting the Polish plane when it suddenly fell onto the runway and exploded.
Footage showed burning debris from the plane rolling across the runway at Radom Airport.
Mourning Among the Spectators
Emotionally overwhelmed spectators in the Polish city of Radom, just 100 km south of Warsaw, witnessed this tragedy during a rehearsal for the airshow.
Videos from the scene showed the F-16 ascending, then suddenly beginning to fall.
Unfortunately, the pilot could not regain control, and the plane crashed to the ground.
The explosion was accompanied by a massive plume of black smoke rising into the sky.
According to local media reports, Major Krakowian was undergoing pilot training at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Dedication and Recognition
He is remembered as an experienced combat pilot with over a thousand hours of flying on the F-16.
He was known to lead the Tiger Demo Team Poland and had recently received the prestigious 'As the Crow Flies Trophy' at an international airshow in 2025 in the UK.
The major also taught at the 31st Tactical Air Base of the Polish Air Force.
When rescuers arrived at the scene of the tragedy, the wreckage of the plane was still smoking from the impact.
It is currently unknown whether the pilot was able to eject or died instantly.
Witnesses in the Polish city of Radom saw the F-16 falling to the ground.
Acknowledgment of Loss
The most common version of the cause of the accident is the aircraft stalling at low altitude and losing lift during the maneuver, says the local site Onet.
Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz honored the memory of the pilot, stating on social media:
“I am at the scene of the tragedy. A Polish military pilot died in the F-16 crash — an officer who always dedicated himself to serving his country with loyalty and great courage. I pay tribute to his memory. To his family and loved ones, I express my deepest condolences.”
President of Poland Karol Nawrocki also commented:
“I received very sad news about the F-16 crash in which a Polish pilot died. I express my sincerest condolences to his family. Eternal peace grant him, O Lord.”
The Radom 2025 airshow, which was scheduled to take place at Radom Airport over the weekend, has been canceled, reports TVN24.
This tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers of airshows and the risks pilots face during performances. The public is shocked by the loss of a talented pilot, considered a true hero of his time. The nation now mourns his death, and the aviation community loses one of its finest representatives.
Tributes to Major Krakowian will continue, as his contribution to the Air Force of Poland will remain in the memory of many.
