Jimmy Kimmel's Show Suspended: What Will Happen to the Host's $48 Million Contract.
Uncertain Future of Jimmy Kimmel's Show
According to The Sun: Fans of Jimmy Kimmel are wondering what to expect next from the late-night talk show host, as his multi-million dollar contract is set to expire soon.
ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely following the host's unpleasant comments about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
GettyA final decision regarding the show has yet to be made, but Jimmy must publicly apologize to Charlie's family if he wants to bring the show back on air.
Contract and Colleagues' Support
According to sources, Jimmy's $48 million contract with Disney, ABC's parent company, expires in 2026. The network is also planning to continue the show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, hosted by Jimmy, despite his controversial remarks.
As of publication, Jimmy has not issued a statement in response to the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
However, many celebrities, including Ben Stiller, Jean Smart, and Wanda Sykes, have expressed their support for Jimmy, pointing out that he is being unfairly punished for exercising his right to free speech.
President Donald Trump reacted positively to the show's suspension, calling it "great news for America" in a post on Truth Social.
He also expressed the opinion that Jimmy has "zero talent," and the show's ratings have been "terrible."
The sudden suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! came just a few months after CBS canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which had aired for ten years.
Situation in Late Night
This has led to serious uncertainty in late-night television, especially considering the frequent criticism of Trump's presidency by many late-night hosts.
Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, hosts of The Tonight Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers respectively, have also criticized the president multiple times on their programs.
Both hosts' contracts with NBCUniversal expire in 2028.
According to The U.S. Sun, Jimmy's team was "unprepared" for the sudden suspension, which took place on Wednesday evening.
This happened less than 48 hours after Jimmy claimed in his monologue on Monday that the so-called "MAGA clan" was trying to capitalize politically from Charlie's murder.
Charlie was shot on September 10 while speaking to students at the University of Utah. His suspected killer, Tyler Robinson, was arrested three days later.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! was replaced on Wednesday by the show Celebrity Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey.
Meanwhile, on Friday, a special tribute show to Charlie Kirk will air on ABC stations owned by Sinclair.
Jimmy has been hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! since its debut in 2003, making him one of the longest-serving hosts in late-night television.
