According to a source connected to the show's production, the situation was rapidly changing on Wednesday afternoon.
"At 3 PM, certain stations learned that Kimmel's show would be suspended, causing panic among the executives," the insider noted.
"Kimmel and the team were already preparing for filming when at 3:45 PM the news of the show's suspension became public, and that's how the team found out what had happened. They were stunned."
Typically, recordings begin at 4:30 PM, according to the information on the show's website.
The source also reported that Disney/ABC employees have been feeling uncertain lately. "ABC has not made comments for affiliates, leading some stations to miss the news about Kimmel," they added.
However, despite the suspension, the show's team is being paid.
"The show is not canceled, so everyone is getting paid at the moment," sources emphasized.
After the news was announced on Wednesday, crews were seen on the show's lot. That evening, 'Celebrity Family Feud' replaced Kimmel's show, hosted by Steve Harvey.
On Thursday, team members were photographed in the rain dismantling parts of the show and packing production equipment into trucks.
WHAT KIMMEL SAID THAT CAUSED THIS SITUATION
Here is Kimmel's open monologue from Monday, September 15, which led to the show's cancellation.
Kimmel said: "We have hit a new low over the weekend when a MAGA group tried to characterize this guy who murdered Charlie Kirk as someone other than one of them, trying to score political points from this."
"In the midst of accusations, Bill Cassidy admits that the White House half-mast the flag, which drew some criticism, but on a human level, you can see how the president has been struggling with this," he continued before the show went to a Trump clip.
The president said: "I think that’s very good," but suddenly pointed at trucks and said they’re starting to build a new ballroom in the White House.
"He is in the fourth stage of grief: building," Kimmel added, prompting laughter from the audience.
Kimmel's fate was jeopardized after the media company Nexstar urged its ABC-licensed stations to suspend the broadcast of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' "indefinitely."
"Nexstar firmly denies the recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk and will replace the program in its ABC markets," the company stated.
Andre Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, sharply criticized Kimmel's comments as "offensive and insensitive at a critical time for our national political discourse."
Meanwhile, President Trump pointed out this issue, endorsing ABC's decision and criticizing Kimmel.
"Kimmel was fired for low ratings more than anything else," Trump noted at a press conference with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer.
