Katie Price's kittens hospitalized urgently: the condition of the newborns raises concerns.
According to The Sun: Concerns are growing over four of Katie Price's sphynx kittens who spent the night at an emergency veterinary clinic.
The star, who has been urged by fans and PETA to stop keeping pets, recently received the kittens when her designer cat Doris gave birth in the summer.
Snapchat/Katie PriceOne of the kittens died shortly after birth, becoming the eighth animal to die under her care.
The health of the four surviving kittens has significantly worsened despite numerous visits to the veterinarian.
Katie, 47, and her boyfriend Jay Jay Slater are bottle-feeding them every three hours after Doris developed an infection and was on a course of antibiotics.
The star also shared that she has to take the kittens with her during her tour 'An Evening with Katie Price and Kerry Katona'.
In her Snapchat post on Tuesday, Katie expressed her alarm as Jay Jay found the kittens in a weak state.
“They are all feeling so bad right now, even though we took them to the vet earlier. Jay Jay had to rush them to the emergency clinic.'
“We are on our way back to the vet, it does not look good.”
“Keep your fingers crossed, they are like our children. We are doing everything we can.”
“We are very upset, and we will be disappointed if they can't help them.”
Katie also reported that the kittens spent the night at the clinic, but Doris's condition improved.
“Good morning, I did not sleep at all last night.”
“The vets called us three times overnight. I will give you another update on the kittens, just not in the mood.”
“But Doris is fine.”
The star performed in Coldfield on Tuesday, in Lincoln on Wednesday, and has a performance scheduled in Whitley Bay next Monday with her friend Kerry.
Today, returning to social media, Kerry reported that Doris has returned home but there was no word on the condition of the kittens.
In a comment to The Sun, the RSPCA provided a statement regarding the proper care of newborn kittens up to eight weeks old.
They explained that kittens 'should not leave home or be exposed to new environments,' and bottle feeding 'is very specialized and carries a high risk of death.'
“Newborn kittens should stay with their mother for at least eight weeks.”
“Our advice is: do not leave home and do not expose them to new environments until they receive their first vaccination at six to eight weeks, as their immature immune systems may be at risk to health.”
Additionally: “They should be in a safe and warm environment and slowly socialized, having the opportunity to meet other fully vaccinated dogs and cats.”
Katie is also raising sphynxes Jerry and Daisy, as well as a dog named Batman.
Katie sparked outrage again in April when she acquired a racing greyhound.
The Sun contacted Katie's representative for comment.
Full RSPCA Statement on Ideal Kitten Care
An RSPCA representative said: “We always advise anyone who takes in a kitten to prepare their new home to give them the best start in life.”
“Creating a safe environment with plenty of space for the little kitten to play, as well as places for rest and shelter is extremely important for their development.”
“Newborn kittens should stay with their mother for at least eight weeks, and our advice is not to leave home until the first vaccination.”
“If the mother is unable to feed the kittens, additional feeding may be required, but hand-rearing is complex and has a high risk of death.”
“It’s important to establish a regular routine, such as frequent small feedings, that helps them learn and feel safe.”
“Around 12 weeks – after the second vaccination – they should be booked for sterilization at four months.”
“Playing with the kitten and providing them mental stimulation, as well as rest, is important for their development.”
“We always advise consulting a veterinarian if you have concerns about your kitten's or cat's health.”
This situation highlights the importance of responsible pet care, especially for newborn kittens. Veterinarians and organizations like the RSPCA recommend adhering to certain standards to ensure the health and wellbeing of animals in the crucial early weeks of their lives. Katie Price has once again come under scrutiny for her love for animals, and her story makes us contemplate proper care for young pets.
