Eurovision 2026: Leleka on Winter Challenges, Song Message, and Preparation for Ukraine.
Singer Leleka to Represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2026
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's entry for Eurovision 2026 will be performed by Leleka. In a statement made on March 15 at the MUZWAR awards, she discussed her competition preparations, the difficulties posed by Ukraine's winter conditions, and the messages she aims to convey through her song. Eurovision is one of the world's largest live music events, drawing hundreds of millions of viewers annually.
Leleka returned to Ukraine in February 2023, a period marked by severe hardships including power, water, and heating outages. While acknowledging the challenges, she noted that the situation brings back memories of her childhood:
“But, you know, on one hand, yes, we know there is a different level of comfort where you don't have to do all this. On the other hand, for me it really reminds me of childhood, because I grew up in a house that never had hot water.” - Leleka
Leleka observed that Ukrainians are living through difficult times, adding: “We live in challenging times, but on the other hand, I don't remember when times were ever easier.” She stressed the importance of using art to highlight the beauty of Ukrainian culture: “And as a Ukrainian woman, of course, first and foremost it is important for me to showcase through art—even if it sounds cliché now—the beauty of Ukrainian culture.”
Eurovision 2026 Predictions
Forecasts place Ukraine in ninth position at Eurovision 2026, an improvement from Leleka's previous tenth-place ranking. Switzerland's entry will be performed by Veronica Fusaro, who is set to compete against Ukraine. Meanwhile, Tim Rutledge has been named the competition's lighting designer.
Leleka also noted that competition rules and restrictions are becoming stricter each year: “But when it comes to specific actions, unfortunately, or it just happens this way, the rules are tightening every year, the restrictions are increasing.” She plans to convey important messages through her song, reflecting the current realities of Ukraine.
Leleka’s decision to represent Ukraine at Eurovision 2026 underscores a continued commitment to cultural exchange and the promotion of Ukrainian identity on the global stage, especially during a time of national challenges. Through her music, the singer aims to demonstrate the strength and beauty of Ukrainian culture, a goal that carries particular significance given ongoing events in Ukraine. Eurovision remains a powerful platform for expressing cultural values and delivering meaningful messages, which can help foster national pride and unity among Ukrainians.
