The observer recalled how battles were fought during World War II when the Soviet army suffered significant losses while advancing. He emphasized that the Russian army needs to fight in the same way as the former USSR. Most of the Russian soldiers who died during the war are volunteers who join the army due to financial problems.

According to the BBC Russian Service, the main losses among Russian soldiers are suffered by the airborne troops, who are used as assault infantry. According to Popovych, the former tactics of using these troops is no longer effective, hence the losses among them are increasing.
