The IAEA team inspected the electrical and instrumentation rooms of reactor unit No.4 at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. However, they again did not have access to the western part of the turbine halls. This was reported by IAEA representatives.

The IAEA team gained access to the transportation workshop, which is located four kilometers from the station. Earlier there was information about a drone attack there on September 7.

IAEA inspectors noticed damage to the roof and light damage to two trucks, but did not find any damage related to nuclear safety.

«The IAEA team also inspected the electrical and instrumentation rooms of reactor unit No.4, as well as the turbine halls of units 1 and 2. At the same Time, access to the western part of the turbine halls was again not provided», - the statement said.

Furthermore, IAEA representatives discussed with the occupiers controlling the ZNPP a new emergency plan which is to come into effect by the end of September, as well as planned emergency drills next week.

«The situation with nuclear safety and security in Ukraine remains unstable due to the war with Russia, with IAEA staff continuing to hear sounds of military action near some facilities», - reported the IAEA.

IAEA teams at other nuclear power plants in Ukraine also reported that despite the Russian aerial raids, nuclear safety is being maintained.

ZNPP has been under occupation since March 4, 2022

Since March 4, 2022, the ZNPP has been under occupation. During this time, the Russians violated nuclear and radiation safety principles by mining the station's territory and not allowing qualified personnel to work, as well as interrupting the plant's power supply from the Ukrainian power grid.

Since September 2022, an IAEA mission has been permanently present at the station, but the Russians do not give them full access to all areas of the ZNPP.

The IAEA does not recommend restarting the reactors of the Zaporizhzhia NPP while the war is ongoing. This was stated by the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi. He noted that currently, the cooling towers are not needed to cool the reactors, as all six units of the ZNPP are in a state of cold shutdown.

It should be noted that Grossi also visited and inspected the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.
