Why do berries on raspberry bushes dry out — what to do about it
Moisture deficiency
Raspberries love moisture, so when it's hot outside and they lack water, the shoots grow slower, the leaves become small, turn yellow, and fall off. As a result, the berries on the raspberry bushes begin to dry out, losing juiciness and flavor.
To fix this, during the active fruiting period of raspberries, make sure to water the plants regularly.
Presence of pests
Raspberries can also dry out due to damage from a pest called the cockchafer larva. This grubs ruin the root system of the raspberry bush. Additionally, the bushes suffer from the cabbage fly, which gnaws at their roots.
To save the plants from pests, water them with a mixture of the following ingredients:
- Ammonia — 0.5 bottles
- Water — one bucket
