Mother's Words Inspired Daughter to Forge Her Own Path

According to The Sun: Spice Girls star and America's Got Talent Mel B once told her daughter Phoenix Brown, 26, that she is less known.

Mel told her daughter:

“I am famous, and you are not”

Phoenix started a career in fashion and quickly gained popularity in the field, although she herself calls herself a 'nepo-baby'. Last year she even presented a documentary on Channel 4 titled 'Born in the Spotlight - Nepo-Baby: The Untold'.

Now she works as a DJ and is preparing for her debut show at London Fashion Week for the streetwear brand Sprayground.

In Search of Her Own Path

In an interview with Daily Mail about her life as the daughter of famous Mel B, Phoenix noted:

“I am figuring out who I am, what I like, who I like, where I want to be.”

“My mom kind of made it clear to me that ‘I am famous, and you are not’.

“It quickly made me realize that I need to find out who I am and not be a shadow.”

She also shared about the documentary on nepo-babies, admitting that she was 'very nervous' as it is a “taboo subject”.

“I thought: well, this could go one of two ways.

“People could absolutely hate it, laugh at me, or they could really listen and ask themselves that this is not just about celebrities; it's everywhere and in everyday life.”

Phoenix also noted that she does not plan to hide from the 'nepo-baby' label.

“I am not going to shy away from the fact that I am a nepo-baby, so call me that.

“But my name is Phoenix,”

Phoenix was born in London in 1999 to parents Mel B and Jimmy Gulzar. Mel and Jimmy were married from 1998 to 2000.

Phoenix, who mostly works as a DJ, has performed at several major events, including the BAFTA Awards in 2024. She has also appeared with her mother in various advertising campaigns and attended events as a duo.

Phoenix is trying to find her own way in her career and actively works on herself in the face of her mother's success and influence. Her desire to assess her own identity and become an independent person highlights the importance of personal development in the entertainment world, where it is often difficult to remain true to oneself under the spotlight.
