Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced that she donated the wetsuit she swam in the Seine River before the start of the Olympic Games to the Olympic Museum.

"From the opening ceremony to the triathlon competitions, the Seine was at the center of attention at the 2024 Olympics. This is important because it was the Games that helped make our river swimmable again. It illustrates what kind of legacy the Olympics can leave. This souvenir is a symbol of the fruits of our many years of work. I am proud that it will become an exhibit in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne," Hidalgo wrote.

Some environmentalists claimed that the water quality in the Seine on the eve of the Olympics did not meet swimming standards, but other studies showed that the water quality had improved to acceptable levels.

The Summer Olympic Games took place in Paris and 16 other cities across France, as well as on the island of Tahiti. At these games, breakdancing debuted as an Olympic sport, and they were the last led by Thomas Bach.

The 2024 Games

The 2024 Games were the first to have an equal number of male and female athletes. The cost of these games amounts to 8.3 billion euros.

The opening ceremony took place on July 26, 2024, outside the Trocadéro stadium. The parade of nations floated down the Seine, and the official part took place at the Trocadéro plaza, where a temporary "mini-stadium" was erected. The parade route showcased cultural elements of the ceremony and views of Paris's landmarks.

The director of this ceremony was Thomas Jolly.
