In Odesa, a man refused mobilization due to faith and family: what the court decided.

A man from Odesa was sentenced to three years in prison for refusing mobilization. This decision was made by the Kodym District Court.

According to the case, in February 2024, the man refused to receive a summons and wrote an application for refusal of mobilization.

At the court hearing, the man explained his decision by saying that he puts the interests of his family first, as military service may threaten his life. He also emphasized that his wife is currently pregnant with their third child.

The defendant's wife supported his decision and noted that it was made together. She also highlighted her husband's religiosity, as he regularly attends church. However, the village elder questioned these words, noting that the defendant rarely visits the church.

After considering all the evidence, the court found the man guilty under Article 336 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.

A man was also sentenced to three years in prison in the Khmelnytskyi region for refusing mobilization 'due to faith'. This is stated in the verdict of the Polonsky District Court of the Khmelnytskyi region.

National deputy from the 'Servant of the People' party Georgiy Mazurashu proposed an alternative draft law that provides for the improvement of responsibility for military offenses.
