"Not Capitulation": Trump at Meeting with Zelensky Spoke About His Strategy Regarding Ukraine.
On September 27, 2024, at the beginning of a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York, former U.S. President and Republican candidate Donald Trump made a loud statement about his strategy for ending the war in Ukraine.
"This is not capitulation. My strategy is to save lives. I want to save lives. Millions of people are dead, millions more than they even think. And this is not my battle, but it is a fight to save humanity", Trump told reporters.
He reiterated his thesis about the possibility of quickly achieving a peace agreement between Putin and Zelensky if he is elected U.S. President. "We have very good relations, and I also have very good relations, as you know, with President Putin. And I think if we win, I think we will solve this very quickly", Trump added.
This statement came amid criticism from U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, who a day earlier during a meeting with Zelensky at the White House, called such proposals "capitulation, which is dangerous and unacceptable".
It should be recalled that earlier this week Trump mocked President Biden's statements about supporting Ukraine "until victory" and insisted on ending aid to Kyiv.
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky took place at Trump Tower in Manhattan, despite previous statements from Trump's campaign claiming there were no plans for such a meeting. The Ukrainian President was planning to present his "Victory Plan" to both U.S. presidential candidates.
