You can't tame a tiger by petting it: McConnell criticized Trump's approach to negotiations with Russia, fearing concessions to Putin.

McConnell: American negotiators risk reaching an agreement that adds the headline 'Russia wins, America loses'
Former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell warns that the Ukrainian war could end with an agreement that would benefit Russia and negatively impact America. He calls such peace 'illusory'.
McConnell made these comments in response to recent events, such as Trump's public criticism of Zelensky and the Kremlin's statement about changing the U.S. foreign policy course in line with Russian interests.
'When American officials play on the enemy's side and mock our friends, they show their naivety,' McConnell said.
According to McConnell, such an agreement would lead to 'illusory peace', which would undermine trust in America, put Ukraine at risk, weaken alliances, and embolden enemies. He compared it to the unsuccessful attempts to appease Nazi Germany before World War II.
McConnell again emphasized the importance of providing military aid to Ukraine. He also questioned Trump's advisors' commitment to the principles of military deterrence and 'peace through strength'.
'Too many of those who use this phrase are not ready to mobilize resources and will,' McConnell noted.
He called for support of the transatlantic alliance and work on the 'resolve of the West'.
It is worth noting that Trump and his team have criticized NATO member countries and European allies for insufficient defense spending. This has been done even among senior officials at the U.S. Department of Defense.
Leader of the British 'Reform UK' party, Nigel Farage, also expressed concern about American-Russian negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine, noting that this process is beneficial for Putin.
