Newcastle United players have refused the legendary anthem Local Hero: what will sound instead.
Changes to the Newcastle United anthem
According to The Sun: The Newcastle United team has decided to discontinue the popular song 'Local Hero' during their entry onto the pitch at the players' request. This important change was first implemented during the Champions League match against Athletic Bilbao.
However, Mark Knopfler's song 'Going Home: Theme of the Local Hero' remains in the team's repertoire, although it is no longer used when the players enter the field.
These changes reflect the importance of considering the wishes of the players themselves, as the atmosphere in the stadium plays a huge role in their mindset for the game. Obviously, the decision to switch to new melodies aims to highlight a new phase for the team, which could impact its results in the future.
