Germany is Refusing Entry to Ukrainian Refugees from Poland.

According to official statistics, Germany is denying entry to most Ukrainian refugees crossing the border from Poland. After the introduction of border controls at the German-Polish border, about 11,000 foreigners returned to Poland.

Despite the possibility of free movement for Ukrainians within the European Union, the German border service may not allow them into the country. There are several reasons for such refusals:

• when Ukrainians have obtained temporary protection in another EU country and attempt to cross the border without prior permission;
• when Ukrainians do not have the necessary documents for movement within the Schengen Area;
• when the authorities of certain federal states are not ready to accept refugees.

According to the Main Directorate of Federal Police in Potsdam, in 2024, there were 9369 recorded cases of entry refusals. The highest number of refusals was for Ukrainian citizens - 4704 individuals. Additionally, Germany also denied entry to 580 citizens of Afghanistan, 470 Syrians, 377 Georgians, and 234 Indians.
