The Institute for the Study of War reported that the Russian command is inflating data about the capture of Ukrainian territories in 2024. According to Russian military leaders, the Russian forces have captured about 4500 km2 of Ukrainian territory. However, according to the Institute for the Study of War, this figure is only 3306 km2.
More accurate data was provided by the Russian Minister of Defense, who stated that Russian forces advance by approximately 30 km2 daily. At the same time, the Institute for the Study of War condemned this data, claiming that the Russian military moves at a pace of 27.96 km2 per day.
Additionally, the Russian Minister of Defense claimed that Russian forces have taken over most of the Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions. However, the Institute for the Study of War states that the Russian forces occupy smaller percentages of these territories: 99% of Luhansk, 66% of Donetsk, 73% of Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions.
