Novak Djokovic was moved to tears on the court: a touching tribute to his late coach.
Emotional moment for Djokovic
According to The Sun: Novak Djokovic could not hold back his emotions on the court when a touching tribute was held in honor of his late former coach Nikola Pilic. The Croat, who began working with Djokovic at just 12 years old, passed away in September at the age of 86.
Pilic, who himself reached sixth place in the world rankings, opened his own academy after retiring. Remembering him, Djokovic could not hold back tears as he spoke of the tremendous impact Pilic had on his life and career.
“I will never forget the time we spent together. He was not only my coach but a significant part of my life,” Djokovic said.
This moment highlighted the deep bond between coach and student that has accompanied Djokovic throughout all stages of his sports career. Djokovic’s words emphasize how important relationships in sports can be, as mentors shape not only the profile of professionals but also their human qualities.
