The legendary O2 Arena has been renamed in honor of the world champion rugby team.
According to The Sun: The O2 Arena has changed its name in honor of the success of the England women's rugby team at the World Cup.
This is the first name change of this landmark venue since O2 acquired the rights.
The O2 has become The Rose2 in honor of the world champion rugby team from England GettyThe telecommunications company O2 has been a partner of England rugby for 30 years.
It became the title sponsor of both men's and women's teams in 2002.
Attention to women's rugby has increased, and O2 commemorated the victory of the Red Roses at the World Cup by renaming The O2 to The Rose2.
The sign above the entrance has been updated – now it features a red rose, making the name similar to The Rose2.
Red Roses captain Zoe Aldcroft commented on the changes: “Seeing The O2 become The Rose2 gave me goosebumps.'
“It’s a bold gesture to honor everything we have worked so hard for; not just on the field, but in striving for greater recognition of women's rugby.'
“This summer was a landmark event for women’s sports, and we are proud to be part of a movement that inspires a new generation and puts women's rugby at the forefront.'
“Thanks to the partnership with Academy Music Group, celebrations spread from London to Oxford, with modern signs commemorating the victory also appearing at O2 Academy Brixton, O2 Academy Oxford, and O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire.”
