New Year's Eve will be frosty: Meteorologists warn of a sudden cold snap

According to ТСН: The last Monday of the year 2025 will delight us with warm temperatures, but this is just 'the calm before the storm'. From December 30, a significant drop in temperature is expected in Ukraine, and New Year's Eve will truly be wintery and frosty.

This was reported by meteorologist Natalka Didenko.

Monday, December 29: Wet snow and storm winds

According to forecasts, the last Monday of the old year in Ukraine will be quite mild. During the day, the air temperature will fluctuate between -1 and +2 degrees.

However, the weather conditions will hardly be comfortable:

  • Precipitation: There will be sporadic snow and wet snow, although brief clearings are also possible.

  • Road dangers: Sidewalks will be slippery due to glaze, and the roads will mainly be dominated by a 'slush' of water and melted snow.

  • Wind: A strong, gusty wind from the northwest is expected.

In Kyiv on December 29, damp, murky weather with snow will dominate. The temperature in the capital will hover around freezing.

Sudden weather changes: When to expect frost

The warming will be short-lived. According to Natalka Didenko's forecast, the cooling process will begin on Tuesday, December 30.

The coldest days will be the holidays: December 31 and January 1. The entire territory of Ukraine will be affected by frost.

"The combination of cold and wind will further lower the perceived temperature," warns the meteorologist.

How to prepare for New Year's Eve: Tips from the meteorologist

Due to the strong wind, the cold will feel much stronger than the thermometer indicates. To avoid freezing outside or while walking, Mrs. Didenko recommends following some simple tips:

  1. Dress warmer, but comfortably.

  2. Use the “salad principle”: Several layers of clothing create an air layer that retains body heat.

  3. Protect your face and hands: Strong wind increases the risk of frostbite even at moderate temperatures.

Be careful on the roads and dress according to the forecast to celebrate the new year warm and safely!

Earlier, the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center explained what the weather will be like in January.

The weather in Ukraine during the holidays promises to be quite unpredictable, so it is important to stay informed about forecasts and prepare for the cold. New Year's Eve could pose a challenge for many, and following simple recommendations will help maintain warmth and comfort during the celebrations.
