In the US, a couple found an antique wedding dress in the attic: the video went viral.
According to ТСН: A young couple from the United States, having moved to their new home, made an astonishing discovery in the attic: there was a well-preserved wedding dress in excellent condition. A video of the unboxing of this classic dress went viral on TikTok, gathering over 2.4 million views.
Caitlin Ostolaza, a 23-year-old resident of Illinois, recently bought a house in another state with her fiancé. During a visit from her parents, who were helping with the setup, her father noticed an unusual entrance to the attic — "without a rope to lower the ladder."
The man decided to explore this curiosity, attached a rope, lowered the ladder, and climbed up, where he found the antique wedding dress, carefully packed for preservation.
"Because he sent me a photo of the box, I immediately understood that it was a wedding dress — from what he showed me and the writing on the box. But it was only a few weeks later that I asked my fiancé to go up to the attic and get it," Ostolaza shared.
She posted the unboxing video on her TikTok channel, which sparked significant interest among users, receiving over 116,000 likes. In the frame, the couple is seen dragging a large box, while Caitlin carefully cuts the packaging, retrieving a blue box wrapped in clear film.
Inside was a classic wedding dress with long sleeves and an elegant pattern on the collar, train, and sleeves. Caitlin showed how the dress looked on her, demonstrating the details up close. In the caption, she noted that she "hopes to use something left by the previous residents as her 'something borrowed' at the wedding." She also added:
"I just know that whoever wore this dress looked incredible in it. The train is just something special."
Caitlin mentioned that she waited two weeks before unboxing the box, trying to contact the previous owners, but received no response.
Despite the dress being "beautiful," Ostolaza acknowledged that "it’s not quite her style — but she very much wants to use it on her wedding day."
"There were many wonderful ideas in the comments — transforming it into a dress for the after-ceremony party, a robe for getting ready. Or there’s an artist who creates decorative elements from wedding dresses — that could also be a sweet way to display it in the home," she recounted.
Additionally, in the same attic above the garage, the couple found other items, including inflatable pool accessories. There’s also a second attic — above the living area, which they have yet to explore.
By the way, 29-year-old Chrissy Mallett surprised her grandparents, Denis and Patricia Lynch, by wearing their wedding dress for her wedding. The dress, which Patricia bought for $400-500 in 1963, was made of silk and peau de soie and had long sleeves and a train. This was a surprise for the couple, who are now 83 years old.
Discoveries in the attic and wedding traditions not only reflect family bonds but also create opportunities for new memories. Stories like this highlight the value of the past and how it weaves into our present, adding new meaning and emotions to shared moments.
