Perrie, 32, became a mother to son Axel in August 2021. She previously described him as a 'rainbow baby', a term used to refer to a baby born after a loss of pregnancy.
The singer shared details about the 'traumatic' experience of losing her unborn child at six months pregnant. She noted one of the worst parts:
“It was like thunder on a clear day. All the scans up to that point had been normal; we didn’t expect our world to just collapse during the 22nd scan,”
she noted in a new interview with Glamour magazine.
The singer spoke about the pain she found hard to bear.
“A few days later, I remember being in the shower, and I started producing milk. I came out of the room and shouted, 'Mom!'. She asked, 'What? What?'. I replied, 'I have milk!'.”
“She said, 'Oh dear, they said this would happen.' But I didn't expect it. I was devastated. It was the worst part. My body was ready for a baby, but the baby was gone.”
Perrie also shared how she and her fiancé Alex managed to cope with this difficult situation.
She said:
“We are so happy to have each other. We love each other so much.”
Alex was very concerned about her condition:
“He was just worried about me, and I think he felt a lack of control, as if he couldn’t do anything.”
Perrie acknowledged that her story received a lot of support after being published.
“It was nice. So many people reached out to me, even relatives or friends I didn’t know had gone through this,”- she added.
The singer believes it is important to change societal perceptions of lost pregnancies, stating:
“Losing a child is still a certain taboo.”
Earlier this month, Perrie announced her new pregnancy.
ABOUT THE PAINFUL LOSS
Perrie bravely spoke about losing her baby at 24 weeks during the We Need To Talk podcast with Paul C. Branson.
She recalled her first lost pregnancy before the birth of her son Axel in 2021:
“I remember finding out I was pregnant. Then I started bleeding and went to the hospital, where they told me: ‘There’s no baby.’”
Perrie acknowledged that she learned about her new pregnancy “not even a year” after giving birth to her son.
It was devastating news when doctors confirmed that there was no heartbeat.
“I remember crying. Alex was traumatized at that time and couldn’t drive well.”

Perrie's openness in sharing her tragedy underscores the importance of support and communication regarding lost pregnancies. This topic often remains taboo, preventing many people from finding understanding and compassion in moments of grief. We hope her story encourages others to speak about their experiences and find support within the community.
