Russia has created a new training ground for Shahed: what is happening near the border with Kazakhstan

According to ТСН: Russia has created a new military training ground for testing strike drones of the Shahed type ("Geran-2") in the Tochka district of the Orenburg region, not far from the border with Kazakhstan.

It is known that active construction work on this site began back in 2022. Over the next few years, the territory gradually expanded, and by 2025 it has transformed into a full-fledged base for launching and testing drones.

Training ground infrastructure

Satellite images show elements of the infrastructure, such as:

  • launch ramps,
  • pads for preparing drones for launch,
  • temporary storage areas for munitions.

Analysts note that the configuration of the site meets the requirements for testing strike kamikaze drones.

Prospects for use

According to estimates from the OSINT community, at this training ground Russia may test not only the serial models of "Geran-2" but also new modifications of drones and other promising strike systems that may be used in the war against Ukraine.

Experts emphasize that the choice of location within Russia, near sparsely populated areas and the border with Kazakhstan, may indicate a desire to reduce external surveillance, minimize the risks of sabotage, and provide space for conducting test flights.

It is also worth noting that earlier reports mentioned the technical features of the new modification of the Russian drone "Geran-2", which now has the capability to shoot down aircraft and helicopters thanks to the integrated MANPADS "Verba".

The creation of such a training ground indicates Russia's desire to improve its military capabilities and increase the effectiveness of drones in the development of the conflict. This could impact the situation at the front, as new technologies may provide certain advantages in combat operations. Observers expect that Russia will continue to ramp up its efforts in the field of drone technology amid the current military tension.
