Director Vyacheslav Krishtofovich has passed away: author of legendary films about loneliness.
According to ТСН: In Ukraine, at the age of 79, the outstanding film director, screenwriter and educator Vyacheslav Krishtofovich has passed away.
The sad news came from the National Union of Cinematographers, noting that Krishtofovich's death was a significant loss for the Ukrainian cultural environment. He will be remembered by his contemporaries as a person with a great heart.
"Vyacheslav Sigizmundovich Krishtofovich's heart has stopped beating - a man of great inner culture, a master who could see the important in the simplest things. He was an artist with a special perspective: attentive to details, compassionate to characters, and candid in creative searches. For us, Vyacheslav was a colleague, a friend, a person with bright jokes and a caring heart," the NSCU stated.
Vyacheslav Sigizmundovich was the author of iconic films of Ukrainian cinema, including "A Lonely Woman Wants to Meet," "Portrait of an Unknown," "Adam's Rib," and "The Friend of the Deceased." He managed to create films with intimacy, deep humanity, and attentiveness to details, where he could see the whole world.
Pedagogical activity
The NSCU emphasized that the artist dedicated a lot of effort to nurturing new generations of directors:
"He always welcomed those who were just entering the profession with hope and faith. Krishtofovich's students will remember the calmness, attentiveness, and kindly demanding nature of the Master, thanks to which new voices of our cinema grew.
Apart from working behind the camera, Vyacheslav Krishtofovich himself appeared on screen in his youth, playing roles in the films "Conscience," "The Heart of Bonivura," and "The Queen's First Rule." His colleagues recall that the director was a person of bright humor and great empathy, who always found the right words of support.
Awards and recognition
Vyacheslav Krishtofovich was also an academician of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, an honored figure in the arts, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine named after Alexander Dovzhenko, "Golden Dzyga-2018," and a long-term member of the National Union of Cinematographers.
"His films and students will speak about him. And we will keep gratitude for the opportunity to be close to him in our great profession, union, life… Light memory, dear Vyacheslav. Our memory is bright and thankful," they added poignantly in the union.
The creativity of Vyacheslav Krishtofovich has become an important part of Ukrainian cinema, raising it to a new level. His films and pedagogical achievements will leave a mark in the hearts of many. The memory of this talented artist will live on, and his contribution to the culture of Ukraine will be appreciated by future generations.
