The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, called to expand the composition of the UN Security Council, cancel the veto power of any one state, and suspend the membership of any member that participates in an illegal war, such as Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Stubb stated that he will add his voice to calls for reforms at the UN General Assembly in New York next week, where issues regarding the composition of the Security Council will be discussed.

"The Council, which consists of five permanent and 10 rotating members, aims to ensure world peace, but geopolitical contradictions have led it to a deadlock on issues regarding Ukraine and the situation in Gaza," the material noted.

The President of Finland will also propose increasing the number of permanent members from five to 10, adding at least one from Latin America, two from Africa, and two from Asia.

"No country should have veto power in the UN Security Council," he added.

According to him, any member that wages an illegal war, "such as Russia is waging in Ukraine today," should be excluded from membership.
