Sergiy Prytula explained why Olya Polyakova cannot go to Eurovision

According to ТСН: Ukrainian volunteer Sergiy Prytula shared his thoughts on this year's scandal surrounding the national selection for 'Eurovision-2026'.

The focus was on the unsuccessful attempts of Olya Polyakova to enter the list of participants in the competition due to violations of the established rules. According to the show's conditions, artists who performed in Russia after 2014 are not allowed to participate. Despite this, Polyakova tried to prove her pro-Ukrainian stance and even threatened with a lawsuit, but her efforts were unsuccessful.

Reaction of Sergiy Prytula

Prytula clearly reacted to the artist's statements, emphasizing his support for the national selection rules. He noted that choosing artists with blemishes in their careers to represent Ukraine is unethical. He also reminded the contestants of the importance of civic stance during the national selection and stressed that the contest should be focused on young performers.

‘Olya Polyakova cannot go to “Eurovision”. Not least because once a guy from Zbarazh grew up to say with a microphone, “you are going to Eurovision”, and you are not.” It was 2019. And I endured a very heavy load after someone from the stage says ‘you are a person who performs with a naked backside in front of Russians in Moscow or wherever, you cannot represent Ukraine at “Eurovision”. Because at that moment the people you are performing before are killing our citizens.’ And this is a contest for young performers,’ declared Sergiy in a comment to ‘Novyny.LIVE’.

It is worth noting that recently the star of ‘Territory A’ Anzhelika Rudnytska also expressed her negative attitude towards Olya Polyakova and recalled a personal tragic story, further emphasizing the tension in this situation.

This discussion around Olya Polyakova's participation in the national selection touches on not only the personal ambitions of the artist but also significant questions about moral principles and patriotism in the cultural context of Ukraine. The developments in this case may significantly affect the relationships between artists and society in the current Ukrainian reality.
