Ukraine's Junior Eurovision Producer Alleges Deliberate Underscoring by Judges.
Discontent with the Competition's Outcome
According to Novyny.live: Music producer Svitlana Tarabarova, who worked on Ukraine's national selection for Junior Eurovision, has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the 2025 contest's results. She asserts that Ukraine's scores were deliberately lowered by the juries, a claim that has caused outrage within the Ukrainian team. Ukraine was represented at the contest by Sofia Nersesian with the song 'Motanka', who ultimately secured second place.
Tarabarova pointed out that not a single country awarded Ukraine the top score of 12 points from its jury.
"Not one country gave us 12 points. Not our neighbors, no one at all! We were upset, angry—it's unfair," she emphasized. These results have raised serious concerns among the Ukrainian delegation, who believe the judging lacked objectivity. The Junior Eurovision Song Contest is a major platform for young talent, and perceptions of unfair judging can significantly impact the event's credibility.
Response to the Final Scores
The 2025 Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place last year, with Ukraine's participation always drawing considerable attention. Despite Sofia Nersesian's high second-place finish, the Ukrainian team was left with a sense of grievance over the scoring. Tarabarova is convinced that such circumstances require close scrutiny and analysis to prevent similar situations in future competitions.
This incident underscores the critical need for fair and transparent judging in international contests, where every nation strives to showcase its talented performers. The Ukrainian delegation's discontent could influence their approach to future contests and necessitates a detailed review by the event's organizers to ensure transparency. Cases like this often prompt discussions about potential reforms to competition rules, which could subsequently affect the performance and winning chances of participants from Ukraine and other countries.
