The EU's policy towards Iran is ineffective and needs changes. The bloc's leaders need to recognize the security threat posed by Tehran, Politico declares.

The publication emphasizes that Europe must consider the possibility of protecting the continent from the Iranian regime. It is about a chance to counter the dangerous regime and punish Iran for its activities in the Middle East and support for terrorist organizations.

"For a long Time, both Berlin and Brussels refused to believe that Iran was pursuing an aggressive policy in the Middle East and that it supports terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah... such a state cannot be a partner in the fight against jihadism - after all, one who sells missiles and drones to Russia and arms Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis is not a guarantor of stability and security" - writes Politico.

Attention is also drawn to the fact that Europe ignored Iranian attempts to attack Jewish institutions and Israeli embassies. European politicians trivialized these threats, which led to serious consequences. Recently, Brussels recognized the necessity of sanctions against Iran, but these measures are not sufficiently effective.

The article expresses dissatisfaction with the EU's policy on Iran, particularly mentioning the decision of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs to send a representative to Tehran to participate in the inauguration of the new president of Iran. The contacts of this representative with terrorist groups, notably the Taliban, are also criticized.

The publication notes that the EU has built the wrong policy towards Iran, and this affects the situation in Armenia. Iran uses Armenia as a transit point for the sale of weapons and the purchase of sanctioned materials. Europe must understand that such a deal is a threat to security. The agreement between Armenia and Iran on arms supplies underscores the risks of Iran's growing influence in the country.

"This makes Iran's growing influence extremely problematic for both Paris and the EU, as this military cooperation with France may give Russian and Iranian intelligence access to weapons also used by Ukraine in its defense against Russia" - asserts Politico.

The agreement with Armenia also poses security risks, particularly regarding IRGC agents who have been actively operating in the country for 20 years. The publication urges EU leaders to take this issue seriously and review the policy towards Iran.
