The legendary musician Ray Mayhew has passed away

According to The Sun: The music world has suffered a significant loss – Ray Mayhew, the famous drummer of the popular punk-pop group Sigue Sigue Sputnik from the 1980s, has died.

Alarm among fans

His death was announced by band member Martin Degville, who described Mayhew as "a light that shone brightly".

Mayhew passed away on August 28, but no information is currently available regarding the cause of death.

The band Sigue Sigue Sputnik was founded in 1982 by former Generation X bassist Tony James and gained popularity with hits such as Love Missile F1-11 and 21st Century Boy.

Band history and legacy

Their style combined electronic music with elements of glam rock and cinematic imagery of dystopian worlds. Over the years, the band underwent numerous lineup changes, but Ray remained the only member to take part in all formations.

Their debut single Love Missile F1-11, released in February 1986, peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and gained popularity in many countries across Europe and Asia.

In 1988, Sigue Sigue Sputnik worked with renowned producers who had previously collaborated with Kylie Minogue and Benassi.

After leaving the band in 1989, Mayhew formed his own group Mayhem Deranged.
