Supertramp founder Rick Davies has died
According to The Sun: Rick Davies, one of the founding members of the band SUPERTRAMP, has passed away at the age of 81 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
The singer, songwriter, and keyboardist, a pioneer of British rock-n-roll, departed this world on Friday at his home on Long Island, New York.
AFPThe band released a statement:
“Supertramp partners are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Supertramp founder Rick Davies after a prolonged illness. Rick passed away in his home on Long Island on September 5. We were privileged to know him and play with him for more than fifty years. Our sincere condolences to Sue Davies.”
Davies was born in Swindon, England, in 1944 and developed a love for music early on — first as a drummer and then as a keyboardist. One of his early bands was Rick’s Blues, which featured future singer Gilbert O’Sullivan, who later described Davies as a mentor.
In 1970, Davies co-founded Supertramp with Roger Hodgson, later joined by Dougie Thomson, Bob Siebenberg, and John Helliwell.
