Robot retrieved a sample of radioactive fuel from the Fukushima nuclear reactor.
A remotely controlled robot removed part of the radioactive fuel left after the accident at the Japanese nuclear power plant 'Fukushima Daiichi'. This became possible thanks to a robotic arm, which went in search of a small fragment of radioactive material in damaged reactors. If the sample is suitable for research, it will help in decommissioning the plant.
The sample was taken from the surface of melted debris at the bottom of the containment of the second reactor. After completing the task, the robot returned to the sample container.
However, the operation is not yet complete, as it is necessary to ensure that the radiation level is within normal limits and the material remains safe. In case of detecting an excessive level of radiation, the robot will seek another fragment.
The summer leak of radioactive water from the nuclear power plant 'Fukushima-1' should also be recalled.
There is also a report of a water leak from the bypass line at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under the control of Russian occupants. This has happened for the second time in a month.
