Recently, Ryland came under fire for his remarks about migrants, stating that housing them in four-star hotels was 'madness' while hosting This Morning. His comments sparked 576 complaints to Ofcom.

Despite the negative feedback, several of his famous friends came to his defense. Ronan even dedicated one of his songs to the former X Factor contestant. He addressed the crowd, saying: “This is a big concert in Chelmsford, as well as in Ryland's hometown. I decided to do something nice for Ryland tonight, so I wrote a song just for all of you.”

“No one has ever heard it before. It's a completely new song, about Essex, about Ryland.” Ronan sang his hit When You Say Nothing At All, jokingly alluding to Ryland amidst his controversial comments.

“I am not going to talk about anything today,” Ryland remarked, commenting on Ronan's gesture.

Ryland also mentioned how migrants saved his mother's life, saying: “This country is built on immigration. Many doctors and nurses who saved my mother's life came here from other countries.”

He added that 'some people who have lived here their whole lives are suffering from homelessness'. Ryland has also started a new serious relationship, and he appeared at the festival with his new boyfriend Kennedy Bates. Witnesses noted that they seem very much in love and are having a great time together.
